The Weekly Cull 6/28/2023
Here is the latest on what happened this week in marketing. Remember, these updates aren't for you to think you need to it all on every platform. No one wants to do that. These updates are for you to be able to be up to day on the marketing trends that impact your business.
Let's dive right in:
Meta
Mid July is the launch date for its Twitter like app. It might be named "Threads" but for now the internal name is "P92". Meta has tried projects like this before and failed so it will be interesting to see if this one sticks.
Facebook plans to end news access in Canada due to a new law requiring large platforms to pay for news. This could be interesting to see if it takes off in the US. Imagine Facebook having to actually pay for content. It won't happen.
Are you running Lead Generation ads on Facebook for any of your marketing campaigns? Do you get confused on if you should do an Instant form or a Website Conversion option? This article dives into the difference between the two AND shows you how to set them up. Check it out!
Have you tried downloading any Reels yet? Don't have the feature? Last week I talked about it but now it has been officially rolled out. If you don't have it yet, you will soon. (As long as the creator has allowed that in their settings.) I have disabled that and I don't think I will be downloading many reels at all. I will stick with saving them in the different folders I have set up in app.
Do you have a kid in your house that needs a little help in managing their Instagram habit? Instagram is rolling out New Supervision tools to help parents help their teens on the platform. You can click here for more info.
TikTok
The TikTok Shopping experience is gaining speed. I know for fact that they are hiring and building up this aspect of the platform and are anxious to get it up and running. A good family friend was just hired by TikTok specifically in their marketing department to work on this feature. As I get the intel I will share it with you. BUT in the meantime, have you given any more thought to creating a product line that you can sell that isn't tied to booking a session? A collection of boxes, easels, and display items. Now may be the time to put that into action. More thoughts on this next week.
LinkedIn is testing AI in their post sections. Got writers block, maybe a quick hint from AI will get those creative ideas flowing.
Make sure your LinkedIn profile is optimized with all the areas filled out with a great headshot. This platform isn't just for job searches anymore.
Two days ago, June 26, LinkdIn removed the following from its posting options. Carousels, profile videos, and embedded links. They kept the old content up but those features are no more.
YouTube
We all know the struggle of picking the perfect graphic for our videos. Youtube is making that easier by rolling you A/B testing. That means you will be able to load two graphics as your video thumbnail and then see which one performs best.
Twitter Blue subscribers are now going to have access to post tweets that are 25k characters long!!! That is one long tweet. How would you use this? Do you think people want to read longer form content on that platform? I'm on the fence on this one
Happy Marketing and see you next week!
